To reduce the budget deficit, Romania needs fiscal reform, says President Nicusor Dan

Today, President Nicusor Dan presented the situation regarding the country's budget deficit and the negotiations to form a new executive. He said that the first draft of the government program, as well as the one containing fiscal balancing measures, will be ready soon, so that the four parties negotiating the new cabinet can make the necessary political decisions.
President Nicusor Dan stated that he wants a first draft of the future government program to be ready on Monday and reaffirmed that no names of prime ministers have been discussed so far, with the discussion focusing only on the future executive's program.
Regarding the budget deficit, which he said could no longer be sustained, President Nicusor Dan said that the technical group responsible for fiscal reform would present a first draft to the leaders of the four pro-European parties tomorrow.
"What I want to convey to Romanians and especially to the financial community is that we are serious, meaning that we are aware that Romania has a deficit that is not sustainable at this time and that we are serious both in reducing the deficit and in our relationship with the European Commission and with the financial community and investors", said Nicusor Dan.
On the other hand, the head of state, Nicusor Dan, said that after the formation of the government and the establishment of measures regarding the budget deficit, justice will be his main concern.
"I am not at all satisfied with the anti-corruption process; there are entire areas of corruption that are neglected by the Romanian state, and as soon as we finish with this issue of the deficit and the formation of the government, justice will be my main concern, including discussions with the heads of the public prosecutor's offices, including discussions about the management plans of the new heads of the prosecutor's offices who will have a mandate starting at the beginning of 2026. On the corruption side, obviously, the Romanian state has very, very large arrears", said the Romanian president.
In his first press conference at the Cotroceni Palace, President Nicusor Dan also stated that a true administrative-territorial reorganization cannot be done before 2028.
