Iran warned Romania on Monday that it could respond politically and legally after allowing the United States to use bases on its territory for operations against it, Iran International reports.
Tehran urges all countries not to get involved in the war, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said, adding that such a move would be unacceptable, according to international law, and would imply international responsibility for Romania.
Romania is not a party to the conflict, and the country has been hosting missile defense capabilities against threats from outside the Euro-Atlantic area for more than 10 years, the Bucharest Foreign Ministry said in a reaction to Tehran's statements.
The system is strictly defensive in nature, it is used only for self-defense purposes, according to the UN Charter, and based on the 2006 bilateral access agreement, the United States can use military bases in Romania on an ongoing basis.
Romania's priority is the diplomatic effort for de-escalation, for which it has advocated since the first day of the conflict.
At the same time, representatives of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemn Iran's completely unjustified attacks against the states in the Gulf region, which endanger human lives and lead to the degradation of global security and the economy.
