AUR to challenge 2026 budget, adopted by Parliament, at the Constitutional Court

The 2026 budget, adopted by Parliament on Friday, will be challenged at the Constitutional Court by the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians, announced AUR representatives, who complain that not all amendments to the draft were put to a vote.
There are two days in which possible complaints can be filed with the Constitutional Court, before the law is sent for promulgation. Petruta Dinu and the reactions after the plenary vote.
Reporter: Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan stated that the new budget comes with a correct approach towards Romanians, whom he assured that the reforms started by the government will be carried through to the end.
Ilie Bolojan: The budget also represents the safety belt we have in the face of unwanted slippages. Thus, no one will be able to throw away the effort made by Romanians in recent months and waste public finances. We tell the truth and do everything we can to balance the financial situation.
The representatives of the government supported the budget in Parliament. Liberal MP Robert Sighiartau said that it provides a good direction for the country, and USR senator Violeta Alexandru spoke about a budget that supports the necessary reforms and prevents the waste of public money.
On the other hand, opposition MPs declared themselves dissatisfied with the way in which the budget passed the legislature.
AUR leader George Simion said that his party has an alternative budget, and POT MP Gheorghe Vela did not vote for this budget because it does not allocate enough resources for vulnerable categories.
Representatives of the PEACE – Romania First Group also voted against the budget.
Nadia Cerva, senator: You have fooled the people again, this time by saying that you took the money from magistrates' decisions for social assistance and, in fact, you took it to the debts of the city halls. You have adopted a budget that does not help any social category.
