A 45-year-old Romanian has pleaded guilty to selling computer data that provided access to the computer network of the emergency management system in the US state of Oregon.
Catalin Dragomir admitted in court that in 2021 he hacked the computer system of the US Department of Emergency Management in Oregon and sold the passwords to the institution's network on the dark web - that is, on the uncontrolled internet - according to the US press.
He negotiated the sale for $3.000, equivalent in Bitcoin. Such personal data can allow unauthorized users to install ransomware or commit cyberattacks.
Dragomir was arrested in 2024 in Romania and extradited to the United States a year later.
