The Minister of National Defense, Radu Miruta, stated that he does not support a possible elimination of the food norm for soldiers and that he will not sign any document in this regard.
He explained that the food norm has been capped since 2017 and ensures the functioning of the canteens for approximately 70% of the ministry's employees.
Radu Miruta also stated that he is analyzing other measures to reduce the Ministry of Defense's expenses.
"The reduction in expenses cannot come from eliminating the food allowance, it cannot come from reducing salaries, it cannot come from reducing the number of military personnel and it cannot come from changing the way military pensions are calculated. There are activities that are currently being quantified at the Ministry of Defense, which can reduce some costs, there are budgets for some collateral activities, which I believe can still be reduced", said Radu Miruta.
Radu Miruta also said that if the procurement programs through the SAFE program are not signed by May 31, the money will be lost.
