In the fall of 2028, Romania will be the guest of honor at the Frankfurt International Book Fair, at the 80th edition of this event, one of the most appreciated worldwide.
On Friday, in Bucharest, the Ministry of Culture and the fair's director signed the official agreement establishing this special status for Romania.
During the ceremony, Juergen Boos noted that Romanian literature has been present in Europe for a long time, thanks to strong, contemporary voices.
"Authors like Mircea Cartarescu and Gabriela Adamesteanu are read all over the world, and their work has been translated into numerous languages. Their books speak of a country that has gone through political turmoil, censorship and new beginnings. We look forward to discovering the diversity of Romania's multilingual literary landscape in Frankfurt", said the director of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
Minister of Culture Andras Demeter stated that "Romania aims to approach this participation with care, professionalism and a long-term vision, offering an honest and relevant image of the depth and vitality of today's Romanian cultural landscape".
