Romania will host a European artificial intelligence center - announced the Minister of Economy, Radu Miruta.
In a message published on social networks, the minister explains that Romania is one of the beneficiaries of Friday's decision by the European Commission to expand the network of such units.
"It is an important step for our digital future", says Radu Miruta, who also specifies that "these centers offer supercomputers, technical expertise and support for start-ups and companies, accelerating research and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence". "Romania has the chance to be not only a user, but also a creator of cutting-edge technology", the minister also declared.
Also in a message on social networks, the rector of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Mihnea Costoiu, announced that the new center, called RO AI Factory, will be created by his institution, in partnership with the National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics.
Behind it, however, is a solid consortium of national partners, such as the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, the National Institute for Research and Development for Biological Sciences, the Transilvania IT Association, the Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the National Council of Private, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and the Association of Digital Innovation Hubs.
On Friday, the European Commission also selected, in addition to the one from Romania, projects from the Czech Republic, Spain, Poland, Lithuania and the Netherlands, states with a tradition in the field of advanced technologies.
