Romania considers that the measures proposed by the European Commission in the field of agriculture are insufficient, difficult to implement, and do not bring any real benefits to farmers.
Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu said in Brussels that Romania will not accept a budget cut for farmers who are facing increasing challenges.
Florin Barbu: We cannot accept a budget cut compared to the current period, given that the demands on our farmers are increasing. We cannot agree with the common plan and the disappearance of Pillar 2 of the Common Agricultural Policy, which ensures the investments necessary for a green transition of European agriculture. The increasingly high standards we demand of farmers must be adequately compensated, otherwise they will lose not only in competition on third markets, but also on the EU's internal market.
Minister of Agriculture Florin Barbu is attending the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting in Brussels, which is discussing, among other things, the European Union's strategy on the bioeconomy.
