A consortium between the University Hospital and medical facilities near Bucharest could change the route patients take and the way complex cases are treated.
The proposed model aims to provide equal access to medical care, lower costs, and standardized treatments.
It also involves faster access to investigations and medical and administrative collaboration. Adriana Turea has more details.
The Bucharest University Emergency Hospital proposes the creation of a medical consortium with hospitals in the counties surrounding the capital.
The goal is institutional collaboration, faster access to treatment, and more efficient distribution of patients without informal interventions. The manager of the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital, Professor Catalin Carstoiu, explains.
Catalin Carstoiu: What does consortium mean? It means that all hospitals in the respective county, as we do in Buzau, for example, will have to be a single administrative-territorial unit and, in this way, an administrative-medical unit. This way, we reduce administrative costs, we standardize medical procurement a little, but most importantly, the protocols of the University Hospital and everything related to medical science and concepts are also transferred to the respective hospitals.
Professor Catalin Carstoiu argues that this could reduce congestion in large medical units. Under this model, patients would be treated according to the level of competence of each hospital, and complex cases would be referred to university centers in an organized manner.
