President Nicusor Dan promulgated the first package of fiscal and budgetary reforms for which the government assumed responsibility in parliament earlier this month.

Thus, measures such as increasing VAT rates and excise duties on fuel, alcohol, and tobacco will come into force on August 1. The announcement was made by Nicusor Dan in Austria, where he is on an official visit.

The head of state also announced that the second package of fiscal measures to reduce the budget deficit will also be approved by the executive branch in parliament at the beginning of August.

It includes reforms in local public administration, state-owned companies, and healthcare.
