The Defense Ministry will hold military and religious ceremonies on Monday to mark Veterans' Day.
November 11 has a double significance. It marks the entry into force of the armistice in 1918, which ended the First World War and created the conditions for the Great Union on December 1.
Also on November 11, but in 2003, post-mortem second lieutenant Iosif Silviu Fogarasi fell in the line of duty, the first Romanian soldier to die in the Afghanistan theater of operations.
Between 1996 and 2002, Romania lost 31 servicemen on missions in theaters of operations, and more than 200 others were wounded, according to the Defense Ministry.
