Ilie Bolojan: Populism is the major danger to the economic recovery in Romania

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan believes that Romania can overcome this difficult period if the necessary measures are taken to balance the state's finances.

He explained, in an interview with Bloomberg, that the hardest part will be until the middle of next year, after which the economic recovery will come.

Ilie Bolojan: I think that is the only solution, on the one hand, to overcome this year and the middle of next year, which is the difficult period, and, after that, to be able to create conditions for economic recovery. Because the practical part of the corrections will very likely be completed towards the end of this year and the beginning of next year, and after that, what should we do? Let's maintain healthy decisions. Let's not enter again into an area of populism, which we have applied in previous years, let's control our expenses, let's collect our income, establish correct rules.

The second budget deficit reduction package should be adopted by the end of the month, also by assuming the government's responsibility, according to the prime minister.

This week, the government intends to adopt the draft emergency ordinance that removes from the NRRP financing investment projects that cannot be completed by the end of August next year. Only projects that are implemented at a rate of over 30% would receive funds.
