Romania drops two places in global rule of law ranking

Romania has dropped from 46th to 44th in the World Justice Project’s (WJP) global rule of law ranking.
The drop is due to a general trend of reduced government transparency, a deteriorating judiciary and weaker enforcement of regulations, the organization’s report highlights.
At the same time, two out of three European Union member states received lower scores than last year.
Hungary, led by nationalist Viktor Orban, continues to slide down the rule of law ranking.
Budapest has lost five places in a year and is rated with the lowest score in the European Union.
Only Slovakia has seen a sharper decline, although it remains well ahead of Hungary.
