Romania could become the first country to tax citizens' private energy equipment

The Association of Prosumers and Energy Communities draws attention to a negative record that Romania could set if it adopts a bill on this issue.
The organization says that Romania could become the first in the world to impose government control and a hidden tax on citizens' private energy equipment. The problem is the draft law on mandatory and paid cyber auditing for prosumers.
In a press release, the Prosumers Association warns that this bill is not related to cybersecurity, but to the economic interests of companies that would win huge contracts for auditing inverters.
According to the press release, it would have been more appropriate to audit large photovoltaic parks, rather than the more than 260.000 prosumers and 330.000 inverters of different brands and models. In this context, prosumers point out that this initiative massively discourages investment in green energy and risks blocking Romania's energy transition.
