The reduction of the US military presence in Romania will not have an impact on national security, believes the president of the Defense Committee of the Romanian Senate, Nicoleta Pauliuc.
Nicoleta Pauliuc: We remain a strategic ally for both NATO and our strategic partner, the United States of America. We are strengthening our defense capacity. You all know that within the Defense Committee, we approved the acquisition of other military capabilities, aimed at ensuring our security. We increased the amount dedicated to military acquisitions to 2.5%, following the trend we agreed on at NATO level.
The Ministry of Defense announced that the United States is reducing its military presence in Romania.
The decision, which is part of Washington’s strategy and the relocation of resources to the Asia-Pacific region, is not expected to have a significant impact on American operations in the Black Sea area.
About 1.000 American soldiers will remain in Romania, compared to 2.000 currently, at the bases in Mihail Kogalniceanu, Deveselu and Campia Turzii.
