President Nicusor Dan holds a first round of informal consultations with parliamentary parties on Wednesday. The talks will cover the country's economic and political situation.
An increase in certain taxes would be inevitable, said the president of the Fiscal Council, Daniel Daianu, who pointed out that, in his opinion, the budget deficit cannot be solved by spending cuts alone.
Daniel Daianu: We cannot avoid increasing the state's tax revenues also by raising taxes.
USR's interim president, Dominic Fritz, pointed out that it is important that the reform agenda set out by President Nicusor Dan be implemented and believes that negotiations for the next government will take time.
Dominic Fritz: Mathematical reality shows that without PSD you cannot pass these important reforms.
PSD is not talking about positions and people at the moment, but believes that the parliamentary weight it has must be fairly reflected in a possible government, says Social Democrats' spokesman, MP Florin Manole.
Florin Manole: We have not yet discussed basic things to come up with proper names of people, positions or ministries.
For UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor, deficit reduction and preserving investments are paramount.
Kelemen Hunor: The first necessity is to bring about 30 billion more in revenues to reach the 7% deficit. You can't do that just by cuts, you have to see how you can increase revenues, by increasing VAT or by collecting better.
President Nicusor Dan will hold informal consultations on the country's economic and political situation with representatives of the parties in the legislature at the Cotroceni Palace.
