Medical first at S.J. Galati: First laparoscopic kidney removal surgery

For the first time in Galati, urologists at the "Sf. Ap. Andrei" County Emergency Clinical Hospital conducted a laparoscopic nephrectomy — a modern, minimally invasive surgical procedure performed with the aid of a laparoscope, through which a patient had a kidney affected by a very serious disease removed.

According to the press office of the Galati County Council, the procedure was made possible by new medical equipment purchased by the Galati County Council, which allows doctors to perform increasingly complex surgical procedures.

The laparoscopic nephrectomy procedure — which puts Galati on the map of medical centers where the most advanced surgical techniques are used — was successfully performed in the Urology Department by a team of doctors consisting of Dr. Madalin Guliciuc, Dr. Ion Cojocaru, Dr. Dragos Amuraritei, Dr. Grigore Pascaru, and Dr. Mary Nicoleta Lupu.

Currently, apart from the hospital in Iasi, Galati County Hospital is the only center in Moldova and Dobrogea where such a surgical procedure can be performed.
