Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan advocated for the adoption of the package aimed at reducing administrative expenses.
The Prime Minister believes that both institutions and the population must participate in the effort to get Romania out of its difficult economic situation.
Increasing property taxes for the population is necessary, says Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, because, in terms of purchasing power, Romanians pay the lowest taxes.
In addition, these taxes represent revenue for local authorities, money that will subsequently be used for water, sewerage, gas, school renovation, or apartment building insulation projects.
Ilie Bolojan: Next year, the Romanian government will no longer be able to transfer funds to balance the budget as it has done in previous years, because we do not have this money; it is money that we borrow, for which we pay very high interest rates. As a result, in order for these works to continue, the additional money collected in the form of these taxes will be, or should be, directed towards co-financing these works. In order for it to reach where it really means value for people, I supported the adoption of the package for administration.
Administrative reform also means decentralization and strengthening the capacity of local authorities in urban planning, construction, sanitation, and so on, says Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, so it is not just about reducing personnel costs, which must nevertheless take place at the local and central administration levels and in all ministries.
Ilie Bolojan: This means that where it turns out we have extra staff, where it turns out we have people who aren't performing, who are being carried by others and who demotivate their colleagues in the public sector, these jobs are no longer worth funding from the state budget. They need to be scrapped.
