The eighth candidate in the presidential elections has registered with the Central Electoral Bureau. Former minister Cristian Diaconescu filed his list of supporters and his candidacy as an independent:

"I want this project to become our project, a national project, a project of normality. Romania will have an extremely complicated historical moment in the coming period and, from this point of view, professionalism and solidarity are as necessary as possible and I will continue to believe that we can generate respect for Romanians, for Romania, in such a way that we show ourselves as a nation as we really are, strong, united and with a certain type of determination to be together in the free world", said Cristian Diaconescu.

Earlier, George Simion (AUR), Elena Lasconi (USR), Liberal leader Nicolae Ciuca and UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor, Diana Sosoaca (SOS Romania), Mircea Geoana and Calin Georgescu (as independents), have filed their candidacies for the position of President.
