The European Commission is analyzing, by the end of November, the measures taken by the Bucharest Government to reduce the budget deficit, and if the assessment is positive, Romania will avoid the suspension of some European funds, said today the Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis.
The European official met with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan at the Victoria Palace. Reported by Petruta Obrejan.
Reporter: "I discussed with the European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Valdis Dombrovskis, in detail the measures taken in recent months, as well as the plans for the coming period", declared Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, measures that will ensure a sustainable economic recovery process.
He added that the months of November and December are also decisive for next year's budget.
Ilie Bolojan: We intend to take measures during November to further reduce spending, to collect revenues and to prioritize and stagger investments from national budgets, in such a way as to find a form of balance.
The message of the European Commission: the deficit target for 2026 must be respected
European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis stated, in turn, that Romania's performance in the last ten years has been solid, but it has been accompanied by an increase in the deficit that worries the European Commission and welcomed the measures taken by the current executive, specifying that the deficit target for 2026 must be respected in order to ensure financial stability.
Valdis Dombrovskis: Going forward, we must ensure that the public finance system and economic growth record solid performances and that is precisely why continuous efforts and involvement are necessary. Taking into account the reports of the Romanian authorities and the measures taken in recent months, the Commission will assess whether Romania can meet the European fiscal requirements under the excessive deficit procedure by the end of November. If the Commission's assessment is positive, this will allow the Commission to stop the macroeconomic conditionality process and avoid the suspension of European funds.
