The intervention teams are fighting for the seventh day with the flames that broke out in the Danube Delta.
There are fires that have burned dozens of square kilometers of vegetation, especially in the Chilia Veche area. Rescuers are operating both on water and from the air, with helicopters.
As Daniel Nastase, spokesperson for the Tulcea ISU, told Radio Romania News, the firefighters managed to locate the fire yesterday, but the operation is not yet finished.
Daniel Nastase: The fire is no longer manifesting with open flames compared to the past few days. Through yesterday's land, naval, and air intervention the fire was localized, but many of the outbreaks on Tataru Island are still active. At the moment they are not active with open flames, they are just smoking, but the intervention is the same, from all three means, air, water, and land. Efforts are underway today to extinguish this fire. It depends on how strong the wind picks up and whether it can reignite the embers still active on the tree trunks and dry vegetation.
