Catalin Predoiu has been appointed interim Prime Minister until the formation of a new executive after the second round of the presidential elections.

Acting President Ilie Bolojan signed today a decree to this effect. Catalin Predoiu is also Interior Minister and interim president of PNL.

His appointment comes after Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu resigned on Monday following the failure of the ruling coalition's joint candidate in the first round of the presidential elections.

The caretaker government led by Catalin Predoiu will be able to manage day-to-day business through government decisions and ministerial orders, but will not be able to adopt emergency ordinances or draft legislation.
