Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whose country holds the six-month presidency of the European Union Council, has promised to put Romania's full accession to the Schengen Area on the European agenda in the autumn, saying in a speech at the Summer University in Baile Tusnad on Saturday that he hopes to have a favorable vote by the end of the year, as RRA reporter Oana Negrea transmitted.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said, among other things, that mankind is undergoing major changes that will shape a new world, noting that the change of the world order is a process that started in Asia, an area that will become the defining center of the world, as it has economic and demographic as well as technological and financial advantages. In this context, he said that Europe needs a strategy to face these changes.

Referring to the war in Ukraine, the Prime Minister of Hungary warned that if Europe does not change its position and does not have a policy of peace, and if Donald Trump wins the US presidential election, then Europe will have to admit defeat and pay the price for this adventure.

As far as Romania is concerned, Viktor Orban said that bilateral relations have made progress, especially on the economic front, since the meeting with his counterpart in Bucharest last year. Orban also said that in the autumn, Hungary, which has taken over the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, will put Romania's accession to the Schengen area on the agenda, expressing the hope that there will be a vote in favor of it.
