Education and Health union members announce that they will launch radical protests if the budget cuts proposed by the executive are approved in the coming period.
In Vrancea, public sector employees have expressed their solidarity with the measures announced by national union leaders.
Over 80% of teachers agreed to launch a general strike at the end of the year if the situation requires it, said Constantin Ionescu, leader of the Free Trade Union in Education, Vrancea branch.
Constantin Ionescu: Next week, on February 4, we will resume nationwide protests in front of the Government. I can definitely announce now that, starting in May, the school year will be blocked.
Amid growing discontent, healthcare workers are also prepared to go on strike, which will effectively paralyze the system, with only serious emergencies being attended to.
Claudiu Grosu, leader of the Sanitas Union: We, in the healthcare sector, like others in the public sector, find ourselves in a situation where we could be the beneficiaries of these measures, in the sense of a 10% reduction in personnel costs, in a system that is already quite frustrated. If this happens to the healthcare system, there will be a strike unlike anything we have seen in a long time.
Healthcare unionists have rejected any discussion of salary and staff cuts.
