Voting for the first round of the presidential election has begun abroad. The first polling station opened in Auckland, New Zealand, on Thursday at 10pm Romanian time, the Permanent Electoral Authority announced.
A total of 965 polling stations have been set up overseas, 15 more than in last year's cancelled presidential election. 3.6 million ballot papers have already arrived at these polling stations and there are no problems regarding the preparation of the elections, said government spokesman Mihai Constantin.
Mihai Constantin: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises voters abroad to find out in advance the address of the polling station where they intend to exercise their right to vote. In the presidential elections, voting abroad will take place over three days, 2, 3 and 4 May 2025.
Romanians with the right to vote who live outside the territory of Romania or are temporarily abroad may vote in the presidential elections at any of the polling stations organised abroad, on the basis of an identity document issued by the Romanian State, valid on the day of voting.
In the country, the presidential elections will take place on Sunday 4 May between 7am and 9pm in almost 19.000 polling stations. Data on voter turnout will be available in real time on the portal of the Permanent Electoral Authority.
