USR will put pressure on the Government to set the date for the Capital City Hall elections, announced the leader of the party's senators, Stefan Palarie. In the opinion of USR, the Government must respect the law, since the deadline for organizing local elections for vacant positions has been exceeded.
Stefan Palarie: We have long exceeded the 90-day limit allowed and provided for in the law, which is why, without any further delay, this week, the Government and the coalition behind the Government must decide and issue this government decision to organize local elections. We cannot negotiate behind this decision. This crazy idea that someone could get angry and leave a governing coalition because the law was respected is absolutely to be categorically rejected.
On behalf of the PNL, the President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, hopes for a consensus in the governing coalition regarding the date of the elections for the Bucharest City Hall. He believes that the elections for the capital should be organized as soon as possible and would like a common candidate of the coalition.
Mircea Abrudean: From my point of view, I think that the elections should take place quite quickly, because it is the capital of the country. I do not think that a very long period is needed, after all, for the people of Bucharest to choose their mayor. Of course, it is a sensitive discussion, I repeat, because it is about a joint or separate candidacy. If there is no progress, I do not think it is useful to keep delaying the decision regarding the organization of the elections. In my opinion, of course, a common candidate of the coalition would be ideal, but this will be established by the coalition.
A meeting of the governing coalition is announced for this week, transmitted Radio Romania News reporter Amalia Bojescu.
