The reforestation program, open until January next year, helps landowners combat desertification and soil aridification, according to environmental experts. In Bistrita-Nasaud County, for example, over 3.000 applications have been uploaded to the Ministry of Environment's computer application for the afforestation of 50.000 hectares of land with money from the NRRP.
RRA correspondent Cristiana Sabau tells us more: "Landowners in Bistrita-Nasaud County have already entered over 300 sites, with a total area of 730 hectares, into the electronic application of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Forests.
Dan Pintea, engineer at the Cluj Forest Guard: "So, a very large area, if we refer to Bistrita-Nasaud County, with a fairly significant proportion of forests, of which 139 sites are accepted, with an area of approximately 270 hectares. At national level, 3.372 sites have been uploaded, with a total area of 50.361 hectares. There is a fairly good chance that we will reach our target."
Previous afforestation programs encountered implementation difficulties due to a lack of seedlings. Now, however, things are different.
Dan Pintea: “By amending the initial order, it is now possible to purchase seedlings from within the European Union, provided that the documents of origin are presented in accordance with EU regulations. In this way, we have eliminated some of the problems associated with the lack of seedlings on the market in previous years.”
The current funding scheme will officially close in January next year."
