Romania: Number of Ukrainians illegally crossing the border, decreasing

Over 5.400 Ukrainian citizens illegally crossed the border with Romania in the first seven months of the year.
They were detected by border guards from Sighetul Marmatiei, Iasi and the Coast Guard.
The number is lower than in the same period last year, when over 7.600 Ukrainian citizens were identified, the Border Police announced.
Ukrainians who arrived in Romania benefit from temporary protection, according to European regulations, but border guards are also faced with cases of guides arrested for migrant smuggling.
Also, since the beginning of the year, over 150 Ukrainian citizens in danger of exhaustion or hypothermia have been supported.
Such actions by border guards were carried out in collaboration with mountain rescuers and those from the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations.
They frequently intervene to provide first aid and save lives.
