Romania has made significant progress in the process of joining the OECD, with over half of the technical assessments having been successfully completed, declared President Nicusor Dan. If this pace is maintained, Romania will join the organization next year, the head of state said, after meeting with the Secretary-General of the OECD, Mathias Cormann.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan also confirmed that Romania is getting closer to achieving this objective, which will generate confidence in the economy and provide stability to the business environment. Ilie Bolojan and Mathias Cormann held a joint press conference at the Victoria Palace.
Petruta Obrejan reports: "The authorities in Bucharest are determined to do everything necessary for Romania to join the OECD in 2026 and all institutions are committed to implementing the organization's recommendations, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said today in order to complete this process on time.
Ilie Bolojan: We have completed almost two-thirds of the total of 25 evaluations in the organization's committees. OECD membership will allow us to take over best practices in all areas of public policy, to collaborate with the organization's member states and partners to find concrete solutions to common problems, to develop more efficiently and to provide stability for citizens and the business environment.
Membership in the OECD will bring Romania substantial benefits, said the organization's secretary, Mathias Cormann, specifying that Romania is entering the final stages of this accession process.
Mathias Cormann: The committees will continue the evaluation in the coming months with the economic analysis on Romania, which will be launched in March 2026 here in Bucharest, when I return to publish this study, as a final step in the accession process. Very good progress has been made and we are very pleased to see that this accession enjoys support from across the political spectrum.”
