Romania is among the countries winning European funding for defence projects. The European Commission announces it will allocate almost €1bn to several winning defence projects in military mobility and drones. The funding is in the form of grants and, for the first time, includes projects in which Ukrainian industry may be involved. RRA correspondent in Brussels Bogdan Isopescu reports.
Reporter: All the projects have both an innovation and defence component. Romania also appears on the winning list, through the Ministry of National Defence or other private companies from Romania.
One of the projects is ‘Auriga’, in which Romania, together with other countries, is developing technology and standardisation for armoured infantry assault vehicles; the project is worth €30 million, with €25 million financed by the EU.
Another project is “Citadel”, geared towards cyber capabilities, worth €68m, of which €48m is non-reimbursable funding.
Another example is the ‘Ninja 2’ project, aimed at correcting errors made by satellite systems when guiding the hitting of a particular target on the battlefield; in short, the accuracy of an attack. The €29m project is 98% funded by the Commission.
