Romania aligns anti-corruption legislation with OECD standards

President Nicusor Dan has promulgated the law that sanctions the corruption of foreign public officials in international economic operations.
The new provisions align Romania with OECD standards, in view of joining this organization, the head of state said in an online post.
The law provides for fines between 500 and 10.000 lei for individuals, distinct from possible prison sentences.
Also, assets and amounts obtained indirectly from acts of corruption will be confiscated and the act sanctioned, with files of this type being investigated by prosecutors from the National Anticorruption Directorate.
