On Tuesday, the government will take responsibility in Parliament for the new draft law on magistrates' pensions, which provides for a phased increase in the retirement age to 65.
Senators and deputies had the chance to submit amendments to the bill until 8 a.m. this morning, after which the executive decided in a special meeting whether or not to accept any changes.
Before the plenary session to assume responsibility, the Senate and Chamber of Deputies met in a solemn session, at 2:30 p.m., to mark 107 years since the Great Union.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan will address the plenary session of Parliament to assume the government's responsibility for the draft law on magistrates' pensions, a document that establishes, among other things, the condition of at least 35 years of service, a gradual increase in the retirement age by one year for each generation of magistrates, and a pension that does not exceed 70% of the last net salary.
This bill also raises the retirement age for magistrates from 48 to 65. Access to European funds, the correction of injustices, and a sustainable pension system in the future are three of the reasons behind the government's adoption of the document.
The document can be blocked by a motion of censure against the executive submitted within three days of the assumption of responsibility.
Parliamentarians met in a solemn session at 2:30 p.m. to mark the 107th anniversary of the Great Union. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, the presidents of the two chambers of parliament, and representatives of the groups in the Senate and Chamber of Deputies are expected to deliver speeches in the plenary session of parliament.
Among the guests are former presidents of Romania, Her Majesty Margareta the Custodian of the Crown, representatives of religious denominations, the leadership of the Romanian Academy, the governor of the National Bank of Romania, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Bucharest.
