The national defense strategy is being debated and voted on Wednesday, in a joint session of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies.
Other legislative initiatives are also on Parliament's agenda this week, as Alina Stanuta explains: "This week, a vote is expected in Parliament to approve the presidents and directors-general of Radio and Public Television, after the new boards of directors of the two institutions nominated the candidates last week.
At TVR, the nominee is Adriana Saftoiu, proposed by the government, and at Radio Romania, Robert Schwartz from USR. Prior to the vote in the joint plenary session, the two candidates will be heard in the joint committees for culture. The Senate is awaiting the final vote on Monday on the proposal to replace the term "handicap" with "disability" in the law on the protection and promotion of the rights of these persons. The document aims to standardize the use of terminology and eliminate a term with pejorative connotations.
PSD Senator Victoria Stoiciu: Organizations for persons with disabilities are also very clear: the term "handicapped" can no longer be used because it burdens these persons and their identity with a label that diminishes their dignity.
AUR Senator Ciprian Titi Stoica pointed out that persons with disabilities also need an increase in their allowances.
Ciprian Titi Stoica: Persons with disabilities have very low incomes, their allowances are a disgrace, and you are telling us grandiose words about a change of name.
The parliament is also considering a legislative proposal to cap the price of bottled water in 500 ml recipients at airports, gas stations, subway stations, and train stations at 3 lei."
