The 2026 state budget is under the analysis of the governing coalition. There were also discussions at the Victoria Palace on Wednesday, in which the leaders of the PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR tried to agree on the final form of the project, especially since its vote has been delayed for almost three months.
The negotiations are difficult because the PSD insists on introducing social measures with a financial impact estimated at 3.4 billion lei, while the Minister of Finance, Alexandru Nazare, invokes the need to keep the budget deficit under control.
Petruta Obrejan has details: "Wednesday's coalition negotiations mainly focused on budget allocations, which is an important issue while the Social Democrats are pressing for the inclusion of support measures for pensioners, low-income families and other vulnerable categories, measures that would have an estimated financial impact of 3.4 billion.
The Minister of Finance, the Liberal Alexandru Nazare, said that he did not have this money available to support the package of measures, having at most one and a half billion and asked his governing partners to find sources of financing for these measures, saying that the budget must be realistic, balanced, and respect the deficit target of 6% of GDP, because Romania can no longer afford slippages, expenses or measures without a source of coverage.
It has been practically more than two months since there has been no general budget, it is still being discussed, a budget that should have been adopted by parliament by the end of last year."
