Local authorities can decide whether to reduce the number of positions or just salary costs, according to a Government emergency ordinance.
Starting next year, however, 30% of all positions - occupied and vacant - will have to be abolished.
In Bistrita, the city hall has decided to lay off over a hundred employees.
Most of the employees who will lose their jobs work at the Infrastructure and Services Department, says Mayor Gabriel Lazany.
"In the new organizational chart, we will have a department with a much smaller number of people in the greenhouses, a department that will deal with tree trimming, a department that will deal with planting, plus the mechanization part, because we intend to purchase more equipment this year to do mechanized maintenance of green spaces", said Gabriel Lazany.
In total, 103 people will be laid off.
"Discussions are being held with the unions, after which a department that is reorganizing lays off all the positions and fills the remaining ones through a competition", Gabriel Lazany also said.
Bistrita City Hall has 664 positions in its organizational chart, and after making layoffs and eliminating the vacant positions, it will be left with 493.
