The government intends to present in detail this week the national defense projects that will be financed through the European SAFE program. This program provides European Union member states with financial leverage to increase investment in defense capabilities. With over €16 billion, Romania is the second largest beneficiary of the program among EU countries.
Andrei Serban has the details: "The SAFE instrument is a temporary financial mechanism of the European Union, with a budget of €150 billion in the form of loans granted on favorable terms. Romania benefits from €16.68 billion - the second largest allocation in the program. By 2030, Romania must capitalize on this opportunity by completing the acquisitions.
This week, the executive intends to make Romania's projects public in detail. So far, the authorities have announced that they will secure funding for the motorways in Moldova-Pascani-Suceava-Siret and Pascani-Iasi-Ungheni.
At the same time, Romania aims to strengthen its defense industry through investment, military technology transfer, and the creation of new jobs. The projects will contribute to the development of military and civilian infrastructure and to equipping the Romanian Army with modern defense equipment, which will ultimately lead to increased security for Romania".
