Money for education from gambling taxation

Social Democrat MEP Victor Negrescu proposes financing education and youth policies by introducing a harmonized European tax for companies in the online gambling and betting industry.
In his opinion, this cross-border digital industry, which benefits from the European single market, is currently insufficiently regulated and unevenly taxed.
The initiative comes at a time when the European Union needs additional resources to meet current challenges, and many of the solutions under discussion could directly affect member states such as Romania, says the Vice-President of the European Parliament.
Victor Negrescu states that he has tabled an amendment supported by the European Social Democrats calling for 20% of the future long-term European budget to be allocated to education and skills training.
