The Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Bucharest, Michael Dickerson, says that Romania remains a candidate for the Visa Waiver Program, but he cannot say when exactly Romanians will be able to travel to the United States without visas. According to him, last year, 24.000 Romanians visited the US without visas.
Michael Dickerson: "President Trump has made it a priority to keep the American people safe and secure, and I'm sure you can understand that. Everything must be viewed in this context. The Visa Waiver Program is a program that not only facilitates travel and trade, but can also make a country safer. Decisions have been made for the moment to pause the program, but Romania remains a candidate for this visa waiver program. I don't have a crystal ball, so I can't say when it will happen, but I am optimistic that at some point, Romania will join the Visa Waiver Program."
The US Embassy in Bucharest hosted a reception on Wednesday evening to mark the US Independence Day, attended by President Nicusor Dan and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, according to RRA editor Oana Bala.
