How the network of doctors who allegedly obtained fictitious specializations in the Republic of Moldova operated

Police investigations and raids as part of Operation Jupiter 4 continue — more than 250 searches were planned for Wednesday.
Some of them are still ongoing, among the cases under investigation being one in which several doctors allegedly obtained specializations in the Republic of Moldova, even though they did not attend any courses. RRA reporter Diana Surdu has more information.
Reporter: Judicial sources have told me that 18 doctors are under investigation, one of whom works at the Emergency Operations Center within the Ministry of Health. Investigators also raided this location to seize documents.
The doctors requested the Ministry of Health to recognize the specialist medical qualifications they obtained at the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chisinau, submitting the relevant specialist medical diplomas upon completion of their residency.
The qualifications covered various specialties, such as emergency medicine, orthodontics, plastic surgery, aesthetics and reconstructive microsurgery, imaging, dento-alveolar surgery, and periodontology.
However, the evidence gathered by prosecutors indicates that the residency studies, which required the mandatory physical presence of resident doctors at university clinical bases, did not actually take place, given that during the specialization courses, the resident doctors were in Romania, where they were employed full-time.
Twelve doctors were taken to hearings at the General Prosecutor's Office; they are suspected of fraud, forgery of official documents, computer fraud, use of forged documents, and unauthorized practice of a profession.
