The Vice President of the European Parliament, Social Democrat Victor Negrescu, draws attention to the fact that disinformation is a real danger that threatens democracy.
He points out in an online post that Brussels has laws to sanction those who promote harmful content or fake news on digital platforms.
"In 2024, 83% of Europeans were convinced that disinformation threatens democracy and they were right. 63% of young people find fake news several times a week, which is why, as an MEP, I made combating disinformation a priority. I supported European legislation on digital services, rules that impose transparency, accountability and sanctions on platforms for harmful content. I also supported the regulation of artificial intelligence; we want an ethical, safe AI focused on people, not on manipulation", wrote Victor Negrescu.
