Former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu has been sent to trial for attempted crimes of committing actions against the constitutional order.
Horatiu Potra and his mercenaries have also been sent to trial.
Prosecutor General Alex Florenta announced that former presidential candidate Calin Georgescu has been sent to trial in a second case along with over 20 people. The indictment mentions Calin Georgescu 370 times and mercenary Horatiu Potra over 800 times.
Prosecutor General Alex Florenta: Today, the indictment issued by the Prosecutor General's Office was registered at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, in which 22 defendants were sent to trial for committing the crimes of attempted actions against the constitutional order, public incitement and some of them for crimes of non-compliance with the weapons and ammunition or explosive materials regime. Clearly, the beneficiary of this campaign of influence, disinformation and artificial creation of a trend in the viralization of the independent candidate's messages was certainly made in his support. Regarding his potential connections with the information network that supported this electoral campaign, these are evidentiary elements from the criminal prosecution file, which I cannot disclose to you at this time.
The fugitive Horatiu Potra, internationally wanted for six months, would have initiated steps from Dubai to obtain political asylum in the Russian Federation, according to Prosecutor General Alex Florenta.
