There is room for spending cuts across the entire public administration, according to an analysis carried out by the government, which led to the decision to implement a comprehensive reform at local and central level, including ministries.
Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said that the administration package must be adopted before the 2026 state budget law. Alina Bordeiasu has the details.
Reporter: The administration reform package provides for a 10% reduction in spending.
"Some may reduce staff, others may work on bonuses", said Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. He explained that this process of reducing spending will target, in particular, unjustified or underperforming positions that drag down the activity of the respective institutions.
Ilie Bolojan: Where it turns out that we have extra staff, where it turns out that we have people who are not performing, who are being carried by others and who demotivate their colleagues in the public sector, these positions no longer deserve to be funded from the state budget; they must be abolished.
Administrative reform also means decentralization and strengthening the capacity of local authorities in urban planning, construction, and sanitation, the prime minister added.
Ilie Bolojan also referred to the increase in property taxes for the population, saying that the measure was necessary and represents revenue for local authorities, money that will subsequently be used for water, sewerage, gas, school renovation, or apartment block insulation projects.
"These fiscal measures and the administrative reform package will form the basis of next year's state budget", the prime minister added.
