On Thursday, representatives of major trade union confederations met with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan at the government headquarters to discuss fiscal measures aimed at reducing the budget deficit, pointing out that these measures focus solely on employees and pensioners.
Cartel Alfa leader Bogdan Hossu said that without a uniform distribution of the effort to cut spending, there will be more and more social conflicts.
The head of the executive told them that their proposals would be analyzed and, if appropriate, would not be ignored. A new consultation will take place on Friday between the three parties involved — the government, trade unions, and employers.
Reporter: Petruta Obrejan - Romania needs structural measures to be credible on financial markets and among investors, as well as solutions to correct injustices and imbalances, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told union representatives, with whom he spoke for almost two hours about measures to reduce budget spending but also on increasing revenues.
State institutions are required to stay within budget
Cartel Alfa leader Bogdan Hossu said that the prime minister told them that, in the upcoming budget adjustment, state institutions will no longer receive extra money and explained what this will mean.
Bogdan Hossu: They will have to stay within the budgeted amount. It is difficult to say that each credit authorising officer will be negotiated separately. They will not receive extra money, meaning that if they have 100 lei allocated, they will remain with 100 lei. So either they lay people off, or they do what they have to do/.../, meaning there are different measures.
Some budgetary institutions “juggle” with the interpretation of the law regarding bonuses
The leader of Cartel Alfa also said that there are budgetary institutions that juggle with the interpretation of the law regarding bonuses, specifying that the salary law is very clear and refers only to bonuses for harmful conditions. He explained that there are other invented bonuses.
Bogdan Hossu: I drew the Prime Minister's attention to the fact that, under the current circumstances, without a uniform distribution of the belt-tightening effort, we will have major problems because there will be open social conflicts. The measures are focused only on workers and pensioners.
