Romania's decision to acquire the F-35 advanced fighter aircraft is an important step in the continued modernization of the Romanian Armed Forces and will contribute significantly to NATO's long-term defense and collective security.

This is the message delivered by the US Ambassador in Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, at the launch event of the Romanian Air Force's transition program to the 5th generation F-35 aircraft, organized on Thursday at the Romanian Government.

The 32 F-35 aircraft for which the purchase contract was signed between the Romanian and US governments represent the pinnacle of aviation performance at this time, Defense Minister Angel Tilvar said, adding that these aircraft will strengthen Romania's military capabilities and security.

Angel Tilvar: The F-35 aircraft have advanced sensor and communications systems, are characterized by unparalleled speed and maneuverability, making them essential for modern military operations. They will not only be a symbol of our air force's competitiveness in the Black Sea, but also a central element in our national security strategy.

The US Ambassador to Bucharest, Kathleen Kavalec, also believes that the F-35 aircraft will make a significant contribution to Romania's security and the long-term defense of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Kathleen Kavalec: The F-35's state-of-the-art sensors, stealth features and network-centric combat architecture will allow Romania to operate more effectively in a rapidly changing security environment.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu believes the acquisition has not only a military impact, but also an economic one:

Marcel Ciolacu: By integrating these aircraft into the Romanian Armed Forces, Romania will stimulate the development of the defense sector and support job creation in key areas of the defense and technology industry.
