The water crisis has also reached Parliament, where the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, was called to give explanations. PSD representatives joined those from AUR and insistently demanded her resignation. Diana Buzoianu, defended by her colleagues from USR, told them that they are only spreading false information. In the end, it was an occasion for heated debates and mutual attacks between the PSD-USR governing partners, without consequences for now. Iulia Gherman followed the session in the Chamber of Deputies.
Reporter: AUR deputy Valeriu Munteanu stated that the government's incompetence, lack of coordination and politicization of the responsible institutions caused the water and dam crisis in the country, and that the Minister of the Environment must resign.
Valeriu Munteanu: All technical data shows that the risk was known since June. Specialists warned that emptying the lake will inevitably lead to a massive increase in turbidity, without which it will be impossible to treat the water.
On the other hand, the Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, accused the opposition of spreading false information. In addition, she denied that she signed the order to start work on the Paltinu dam.
Diana Buzoianu: A two-pound lie! False! There is no order signed by me because there is simply no such attribution at the Ministry of Environment for such work.
Along with the opposition MPs, PSD representatives demanded the honorary resignation of the Minister of Environment.
Deputy Gratiela Gavrilescu: In 2025, many of us had to go without water, because some simply said, with great courage: I was not informed. You are not allowed to use this phrase.
The reply came from USR deputy Alexandru Dimitriu.
Alexandru Dimitriu: You have before you a strong woman who is fighting all the mafias, and you are standing with your hand outstretched at AUR and playing with fire with democracy in Romania. USR is not leaving the government.
At the end of the debates, the Minister of Environment stressed that she will not give in to political pressure and will continue the promised reforms.
