The Ministry of Environment hosted on Thursday the awards ceremony for the "Best electric car 2025", an event that aims to bring the best electric cars of the year to the public's attention. Now in its fifth year, the competition selected eight finalists, electric cars tested by a special jury.

The fifth edition of the "Best electric car in Romania" competition, organized by Auto Expert Media in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and a number of private companies, named its winners on Friday.

From more than 40 eligible models, the members of the expert jury, experienced motoring journalists, chose eight models that they tested both in the city and on national roads and highways, on a 600 km route. Florin Micu, Auto Expert journalist and organizer of the competition, says that despite the problems, the market for electric cars is growing.

Forin Micu: In the first edition it was difficult to gather seven finalists. This time we had a hard time choosing the eight finalists from a list of almost 40 eligible models, all new, all launched in the last year. So, the market for electric vehicles is clearly growing. Of course, there are these inherent problems linked to the "Rabla" program, the price of cars, but slowly but surely solutions are being found, electric cars are becoming more and more affordable, so we are happy to organize this event.

Following the vote of the 16 members of the jury, the best electric car of 2025 was a crossover car, the result of a partnership between Swedish design and Chinese production means, a model that has recently entered the Romanian market.

At the same event, Environment, Water and Forests Minister Mircea Fechet said that the "Rabla" program will kick off this month and that the value of the eco-label has increased this year to 7.500 euros, which will encourage Romanians to buy an electric car.

Mircea Fechet: "Rabla" starts this month, as I said. Most probably we will start with legal entities, but we are not abandoning the process, we are not postponing it. Apart from the technical problems that AFM colleagues have encountered lately, we are working day and night and this month we will start the registration for the "Rabla" program. I can see that from one year to the next things are evolving very strongly, new technologies are also making their way into the car industry, and this can only make us happy. We all want a city with cleaner air, whether we live in Bucharest, Cluj or me in Bacau, and electric cars are a tool which also brings this benefit, as we all breathe cleaner air.

As part of the "Best electric car" competition, the first electric car produced in Romania, at the Craiova plants, was also awarded a prize, receiving both the popularity award and the best consumption rate award. A special prize was also awarded to Cluj-Napoca, the most developed municipality in terms of charging infrastructure, which was named the best electric city.
