Teachers threaten to block the school year

A new day of protests in front of the Ministry of Education. Members of education unions are voicing their dissatisfaction with the package of fiscal and budgetary measures adopted by the Government.
Teachers are demanding the resignation of Minister Daniel David and say that measures such as increasing the teaching norm, increasing the number of students in a class and merging some educational units will seriously affect their activity.
They say that the decisions were made without consultation and without an impact study.
The Secretary General of the Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education, Ion Zoican, told RRA reporter Alexander Avram that the protests will continue until the revocation of Law 141 is obtained, the start of the school year being threatened with blocking:
Ion Zoican: I had a meeting with the Minister of Education, in which I asked him to go to Bolojan and repeal Law 141 regarding education. That is why we continue to protest until we see a document. It could be through an emergency ordinance, it could be through something else. We are waiting for Minister David to go there and request this. We will see in the coming days, but we will continue the protests until he resolves this situation. If not, he should leave the position he currently holds. It will be a large-scale protest and they will block the start of the school year if the situation we requested is not resolved by then: the repeal of the provisions of the Austerity Law regarding education.
