Romania needs to transition to "a new model of strategic defense"

Romania needs to transition to a new strategic defense model that is no longer based solely on purchasing military equipment from manufacturers, said Corneliu Visoianu, general manager of Romarm National Company S.A., a subsidiary of the Dragomiresti Special Products Plant, at the first edition of the conference dedicated to strengthening the national defense industry "Make it in Romania." Corneliu Visoianu says that the new system should be based on five essential pillars.
Corneliu Visoianu: In 2025, security is no longer the domain of a single institution. It is a shared responsibility, where the speed of collaboration defines success. Technology alone is no longer enough. Until now, we have operated in an outdated supplier-customer logic. The industry produces, and the army buys or imports. This model is dead. Security in the 21st century is a team sport. We need a steel hand with five fingers: the industry — which must be innovative, not just executional; the military — which must transmit orders and provide immediate operational feedback; academia — which must deliver cutting-edge solutions and technologies, AI, cyber, quantum; the media — which must help us regain the trust of citizens, and, crucially, the government and the entire administration, which must facilitate, not just control.
Corneliu Visoianu also proposed the creation of an Industrial Council for National Security, an informal platform for finding solutions in the field of security and defense, reporter Alexander Avram told us.
