Romania can become a natural gas exporter

Romania's status as the largest producer of natural gas in the EU puts the country in a favorable position both in terms of covering domestic energy needs and in terms of exports, said ANRE president George Niculescu.

He anticipates an increase in gas consumption in the coming period, but emphasizes that the authorities are ready to cope with this demand:

George Niculescu: We are prepared, we have been prepared in previous years and I believe that we will not have any problems from now on, from the perspective of security of gas supply, because the volumes necessary for gas consumption are available. We have them. Let us not forget that Romania has recently become the largest producer of natural gas in the European Union. We have overtaken the Netherlands and are in first place. This is very important. We are basically consolidating our role as a major producer. We are also starting to put the building blocks in place to build our role as a safety exporter to the surrounding countries.
