Romania and Ukraine marked on Wednesday, in Tulcea, 20 years of good neighborly cooperation. The collaboration between the two countries has been marked by challenges related to underfunding or mentalities, as well as crises such as the refugee crisis or the COVID pandemic.
However, the funds allocated to the current programming period have been absorbed by 70%, said the executive director of the Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation, Cezar Grozavu.
Cezar Grozavu: We have contracted over 70% and are now in the process of evaluating the last call, so we are confident that by the end of this year we will have contracted the entire financial allocation of 60 million euros. I would like to mention here that, despite an initial reduction, the outbreak of the conflict caused the amounts allocated to the good neighborly programs of Russia and Belarus with the countries of the European Union to be redistributed and, for this reason, our program benefited from additional funding, which will now be found in new projects.
